About YellowMelen and Phil Richardson

Thank you for taking the time to browse our site and we look forward to meeting and working with you on your project.

Working with you

We view any project as important as the next as we know we will be measured against our last. Working with you from the outset we will engage you at every step to ensure we deliver a service to exceed your expectations.

Why the name YellowMelen?
A little tautology YellowMelen means Yellow Yellow.  Melen is the Cornish word for Yellow, which is fortunate as I love yellow.  This is in reference to my Cornish father plus my mother's Welsh side.  The logo uses the 15 gold bezants from the Cornish shield which is based upon the tale of the ransom of the Duke of Cornwall from the crusades.  Onen hag oll!

Phil Richardson

Phil RichardsonMy love of photography started early with my father, a keen amateur photographer, watching him really inspired me as well as teaching me most of the basics although i really regard myself as self taught.  Observational photography is my favourite area, photographing images with strong narratives with heavy shadows, and although i am experienced using flashes ambient light is my preferred method.

I have bee n a professional photographer for over 8 years now and professional videographer for over 12 years working mainly in the corporate sector.  Usually with Alistair Peck i photograph about four to five weddings a year in a reportage style as i find this works well with most couples and me! Portrait and family photography i prefer to be on location with interest people in interesting situation in a relaxed and fun atmosphere.

Over the last 5 years i have been training photographers to improve or to help them become professional too. MelenCourses has taken off really well and we are running over 30 courses a year here at MelenStudios, Ashridge Business School, the National Trust Ashridge Estate, and  Berkhamsted School.
